The Publishing Company is a small design and communications consultancy, specialising in providing professional and creative services to our clients.

Stephen Dickens is the Director of The Publishing Company, which he set up in 2004, after returning to New Zealand from working on assignment in Papua New Guinea. He has extensive experience in creative design, editing, writing and proofreading, new media, corporate communications, marketing, business development and production and project management. Stephen worked for Deloitte for six years and has been a self-employed consultant since leaving Deloitte in 2002.

In 2003, Stephen was contracted as the Communications Advisor for the Bougainville Transition Team (BTT) on Bougainville Island, Papua New Guinea. AusAID/NZAID funded, The BTT's mission was to assist the Bougainville Provincial Government facilitate the peace process in the run-up to an autonomous government. Working closely with the UN, ex-combatants, NGOs, the Provincial Administration and local and regional media, Stephen's role was to raise awareness of the peace process throughout the North Solomons Province.

When the mission finished at the end of 2003, Stephen was contracted by NZAID to work as a Technical Adviser to the Bougainville Provincial Government. He initiated and helped set up Bougainville’s first newspaper, called the Sunkamap Times, with the aim of capacity-building and mentoring local employees in the Department of Information, Arts & Culture and Tourism.

Recently, Stephen was contracted by the Problem Gambling Foundation (a large national NGO), where he developed a global resources website, rebranded their current website, wrote and designed their Annual Report and advised on branding and strategic communications. Stephen also provides services to a number of community organisations and NGOs on Waiheke and a number of small businesses.

Past and present clients include NZAID, AusAID, the Niuean Government, Clean Stream Waiheke Limited, AEL Legal; The Problem Gambling Foundation of New Zealand, The Accounting Standards Review Board, Deloitte, Sigma Group Partnership, The Ostend Market, Waiheke Community Childcare Centre, The Waste Resource Trust, and the Junk to Funk Fashion Show. Stephen also provides freelance and consulting services to agencies and printers.
